Lybrido Reviews - Does Lybrido Really Work?

Lybrido is a drug being developed by the Dutch company Emotional Brain. It is the first drug developed for treating HSDD according to the company. There is a lot of hype behind the drug since initial news of its development in 2013. Currently, it is still undergoing comprehensive clinical trials although the initial trial with 200 participants in the United States was a success according to Dr. Adriian Tuiten who is the founder of Emotional Brain.

What You Should Know About Lybrido?

Lybrido is a drug for premenopausal women specifically for hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD). HSDD is a condition wherein the person has persistent low sex drive causing distress and often leading to relationship problems. Essentially it is a female version of the erectile dysfunction (ED) drug Viagra. It is normal for the libido of a woman to fluctuate throughout her lifetime due to hormonal changes, stress and a combination of lifestyle factors. What differentiates HSDD is when it is constant and there is no explanation for the loss of sex drive.

As of now, there is still no medical treatment for HSDD approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). However, Emotional Brain is currently working on two drugs (Lybrido and Lybridos) which they claim will eventually be approved by the FDA and made available to the public for the treatment of HSDD.

Lybrido and Lybridos

Lybrido and Lybridos are very similar but vary a little. Both drugs contain testosterone which has been shown to be an important hormone for healthy female libido. Several studies have shown that low testosterone in women is one of the common causes of low sex drive. In fact, some physicians already prescribe testosterone to women who have been found to be suffering from low sex drive due to low testosterone. However, there are several possible side effects like the deepening of the voice and a decrease in breast size.

Lybrido contains an ingredient very similar to sildenafil which is the active ingredient in the ED drug Viagra. The active ingredient essentially works by improving blood flow to the genitals which in many cases helps improve the physical sexual response of a woman. The drug also helps improve sexual sensitivity improving sexual pleasure and helping the user reach orgasm. The website of Emotional Brain claims that it has been shown to be effective for women with low sex drive and motivation due to insensitivity to sexual cues.

The other product Lybridos (with an S at the end) doesn't contain the ingredient similar to sildenafil. Instead, it contains a type of anti-anxiety medication called buspirone. According to Emotional Brain, this particular drug is for treating women with HSDD due to inhibitory mechanisms in the brain caused by negative associations with sex.

Both the drugs are to be taken about 3 to 3.5 hours before intended time of sexual activity. Although the drug is sort of a "female Viagra", this comparison isn't really accurate because the ED drug Viagra helps men achieve erections by increasing blood flow to the penis. On the other hand, Lybrido and Lybridos work more on the brain since many believe that the brain is the most vital sexual organ of a woman. Dopamine which is a chemical naturally produced in the brain has an important role in the sexual desire of women. Low dopamine production can cause low sexual desire which is a problem that Lybrido can help with. On the other hand, Lybridos contains buspirone which curbs the inhibitory responses that are triggered by the brain.

What Experts Are Saying About Lybrido?

The main concern of experts regarding the drug Lybrido is its safety. For instance, Dr Andrew Goldstein who is a renowned female sexual health expert stated in an interview with the New York Times that drug companies like Emotional Brain need to prove thoroughly that they will not be turning women into nymphomaniacs with their drugs. Some experts are also concerned that drugs like Lybrido will put pressure on women to perform. There are also many concerned if the drug is really effective in increasing female sex drive. They point to the fact that no drug is going to fix relationship problems or decrease stress significantly.

When Will Lybrido Be Available?

More than 40% of women will experience low sex drive at some point/s in their lives. This is why companies are developing drugs like Lybrido. However, the drug in particular is still in the process of clinical trials although the founder of Emotional Brain claims that their initial trial is a success. Dr Tuiten stated in 2013 that the drug is most likely to be made available by the end of 2016. However, after the clinical trials they still have to jump over a giant hurdle known as the FDA which may require a much longer time for approval.
